How much would you say that you care for your hair? Most people only remember to give their hair some extra care when we notice split ends or dandruff. But it could really benefit from consistent use of protein-rich hair masks, which help it stay strong and healthy.

Your hair is mainly made up of keratin, a protein with high levels of sulfur. There are lots of external factors that can gradually break down your hair strands:

  • Chemical treatments
  • Using hair straighteners and curlers
  • Dyes

Protein also plays a very important role when it comes to hair health. Its main job is to coat the capillary structure and help keep hair follicles strong. So, a diet low in protein often leads to weak hair and split ends.

Below are five recipes for some masks that could help you nourish and care for your hair.

1. Yogurt hair mask

Some yogurt for a protein-rich hair mask.
Due to its probiotic content, yogurt is recommended to keep your defenses in optimal condition. In addition, it also helps digestive health.

Because of its creamy texture, yogurt is considered a food that can help soften, nourish, and hydrate hair naturally when used as a mask.

  • 1/2 c. of Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp. of olive oil

  • Start by adding both to a container and mix until thick and uniform
  • Then, moisten your hair and apply the mask from the roots all the way to the ends
  • Let sit for 30 minutes while you lightly massage your scalp
  • Finally, rinse with plenty of warm water and wash your hair like normal

2. Eggs are a great ingredient for protein-rich hair masks

Eggs make a great ingredient for protein-rich hair masks. They can strengthen your hair follicles, so they’re great if you’ve noticed your hair falling out more than usual lately.

Hair masks made with eggs will make your hair thicker and act as a moisturizer for dry hair, all while balancing oil levels.

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp. of olive oil

  • First, place both ingredients in a container and mix until smooth
  • Then, apply to your washed, untangled hair
  • Finally, let sit for 12 minutes and rinse with plenty of water

3. Coconut milk hair mask

Some coconut milk for a protein-rich hair mask.

The third of our protein-rich hair masks are rich in iron, which rejuvenates and conditions your hair. So, it’s a great mask to help keep them from looking frizzy.

Coconut milk is great for all hair types and contains amino acids, vitamins, polysaccharides, oligo-elements, and mineral salts. After using this mask, you’ll have shinier, softer, and stronger hair.

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tbsp. of honey
  • 2 tbsp. of mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp. of olive oil
  • 3 tbsp. of coconut milk

  • Firstly, mix all ingredients together in a blender
  • Then, apply to your hair from the roots to the ends
  • Let sit for an hour and then rinse with plenty of water
  • This hair mask is ideal for before dying your hair

4. Avocado mask

Besides being a tasty addition to any salad, avocados are excellent for hair care. Furthermore, this hair mask regulates growth and reduces hair loss.

  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 of a ripe avocado
  • 2 tbsp. of olive oil

  • First, mix all ingredients until you get a smooth paste
  • Then, apply to your hair from the roots to the ends and let sit for 45 minutes
  • Finally, rinse with plenty of water

5. Gelatin hair mask

A bowl of gelatin.
Gelatin consumption is positively associated with increased collagen synthesis.

While you may not expect it, flavorless gelatin is an exceptional ingredient for protein-rich hair masks. Furthermore, thanks to its protein, gelatin repairs, strengthens and gives volume to your hair.

  • 1/2 packet of gelatin
  • 1 bottle of shampoo

  • Firstly, mix the shampoo well into the gelatin
  • Finally, use the mixture 2 or 3 times a week and wash as normal

6. Protein-rich hair mask for hair growth

If you want your hair to grow faster and be stronger and healthier, use this aloe hair mask.

  • 1 c. of hot water
  • A tsp. of gelatin
  • 1 tbsp. of aloe vera gel

  • First, combine all ingredients until well-mixed
  • Secondly, wash your hair and apply the mask
  • Then, let sit for 20 minutes and rinse
  • Repeat once a week

Some tips for protein-rich hair masks

Although these protein-rich hair masks can be a huge help, using them over a long period of time isn’t a good idea for natural, undyed hair.

A good rule to follow is to use them 5 times a month. In addition, this will give you good results without saturating your hair fibers.

It’s important to rinse well after using any of these masks. Finally, wash your hair well with shampoo to eliminate any residue.
