How to Have a Positive Attitude in an Adverse Situation

· June 20, 2016

Since we can’t change the past, we need to center ourselves and have a positive attitude in the present and the future so they are as fruitful and prosperous as possible.

Life doesn’t always give us news that we want, or expect to hear.  It’s during times like these that we tend to think that everything’s gone downhill, and nothing’s going right.

But that’s when we need to remember the age-old adage to “see the glass half full”, for anything that happens to you.

Would you like to know how to have a positive attitude when faced with an adverse situation?  We’re going to offer a few tips here in this article.

Have a positive attitude and be thankful

It’s true.  It’s very hard to put a smile on your face whenever things turn out the opposite of what you had wanted; it’s hard to say “thanks” to life.  But this is necessary in order to move forward.

A positive attitude will improve your self-esteem and your attitude towards your problems.  We all pass through difficult times because that is simply how life is.  The heart of the matter is in how you face these bad times, turning them into new opportunities.

If you are going through a horrible moment in your life, this will undoubtedly bother both your outer and inner self.  You’ll become ill, get wrinkles, become irritable, unable to focus…and the list goes on.

One problematic situation can affect each and every step you take, along with your relationships with the people around you, your health, etc.  It seems like an unstoppable wheel, a viscous circle, or however you prefer to think about it.

Whatever the case, it seems like you’re walking around with your head in a dark cloud, and storms are all that surround you.

There’s nothing you can say about it when it seems like things just don’t get better, but rather, just the opposite: bad news comes one after the other for some period of time.  It becomes more and more difficult to get out from under your problems and find that fresh air that everyone needs.

But do not despair.  It is possible to improve your days and your life, if you have the necessary conviction and attitude.  Get it in your mind that everything is going to be fine, and do not fall prey to thinking that you will be unlucky for the rest of your life.

Advice for preventing the bad from affecting you so much

This isn’t about being a feeling-less robot or machine.  Of course bad things are going to change your life.  But, as they say, “extremes are never good.”

That’s why you should try to be a little more gracious with yourself. The following advice for keeping a positive attitude when facing adverse situations is going to be a great help:

Pay attention to the good things

You have thousands of things to smile about!  Everything that happens in your life (either good or bad) serves as a lesson to be stronger, to arrive at your destination sooner.  Believe in this core idea, and you will find the bright side of every situation (your glass will be half full).

This might be hard for you in some ways, but it’s worth the effort.  You always have to balance the good and the bad…and analyze which weighs heavier.  Find the positive in everything and your perspective towards life will improve.

Find the lesson

In addition to finding the positive in every situation, try to find the lesson to receive.  Life is the best teacher you could possibly have.

This will help you understand everything that happens to you and you will be able to face similar things that happen to you in the future.  Be prepared for anything.  Take a lesson from every problem you face, and then use those lessons in specific situations to grow and mature.

This will also improve your self-esteem and will prevent you from feeling bad again.

Find a solution

Every problem has an answer, although they sometimes feel harder to find than a hidden treasure in the middle of the ocean.  But don’t worry, you will find a solution.  Rather than thinking about the problems, focus on how to fix them.

This will change your negative attitude and will help you to feel much better about yourself when you do something about it.  Make a plan of action that will lead you to an effective, quick and complete solution.

Remember, if you cry because you can’t see the sun, your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars!

Don’t forget the future

Whenever you have a problem or something goes wrong and you get stuck in the past, or sometimes, the present, you are making a mistake!  You can’t change what has already happened, which is why you should think about tomorrow, which is never set.

Rather than worrying too much about what has already happened, think about how you could feel from now on.  Keep your mind focused on the future, however you prefer it to be, what actions you’re going to take, etc.

Speak positively

The negativity that you hold on to when things go badly is also reflected in the way you speak and how you direct yourself towards others.

You probably spend your time complaining about everything and everyone.  Nothing nice comes out of your lips, and the most common words you say are “no”, “never”, “impossible”, “sadness”, and “bad”.

Change the way you speak to attract positive things!

Say “yes”, “it is possible”, “happiness”, and “good” the next time you’re speaking with someone or thinking about something.

You will slowly see how a small change can be the first step towards the path to recovery.  Be confident and have faith that you are going to be able to enjoy your life, which is beautiful with all its ups and downs.
