How Can I Make a Natural Deodorant?

Last update: 09 October, 2022

Do you suffer from irritated armpits? Don’t like the scent of deodorants that are sold in stores? Do you want to stop using chemical beauty products? If that sounds like you, we’ll tell you how to make your own homemade, cheap, and natural deodorant in this article.

Side effects of using deodorant

There’s a lot of research related to this cosmetic product that is used so much by men and women. Us consumers don’t analyze what they are made of and we use them no matter what, not knowing that they could cause serious skin problems, for example. The majority of the brands use aluminum chlorohydrate (known as aluminum salts), which clog your pores, don’t allow them to “breath”, and close the off the passage of sweat. A lot of people will say that obviously this is the deodorant’s job.

The problem is that it directly interrupts the natural process of temperature regulation. Therefore, it is stopping the body from working like it should, cooling the areas where it shouldn’t, which could be a problem for the body. Furthermore, there are some studies that show that the frequent use of deodorant can cause breast cancer because its components penetrates through the skin. They’re then deposited in this area because of it is to the armpit.

You will realize that deodorant is not all good when you stop using it and you smell worse than before. This is because the substances in the product remain “stuck” on your armpits, just like what happens to it on clothing. So, you have two options: start buying deodorant that doesn’t have aluminum salts, or prepare your own antiperspirant at home.

Homemade deodorant: recipe 1

For the first option, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup of corn starch
  • 1/3 cup of baking soda
  • 10 drops of essential lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, or tea tree oil, all antibacterial
  • 10 drops of essential mint or sandalwood oil (for women, men should have 20 drops)
  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Vitamin E oil (optional)

Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl until a thick paste is formed. Put it in an empty deodorant container and apply it daily. Be careful because too much will be uncomfortable.

  • 2 cups of shea butter
  • 3 cups of baking soda
  • 2 cups of cornstarch

  • 15 drops of rosemary oil
  • 15 drops of white thyme oil

  • 3 orange peels
  • 1 liter of water
  • 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 1 cup of sea salt

Grate the fruit peels and boil them with the water. Strain and let chill. Add the sea salt and baking soda. Mix well and put it in another bowl. You can use it for your armpits and other parts of your body or even for a relaxing bath.

Homemade deodorant: recipe 6

This natural deodorant recipe has two ways to prepare it: standard and special for sensitive skin. For the first one, you’ll need:

  • 1/4 cup of baking soda
  • 1/4 cup of corn starch
  • 10 drops of tea tree oil
  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil

For the second one you will need:

  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 6 tablespoons of corn starch
  • 10 drops of tea tree oil
  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil

As an option for both, you can use whichever essential oils you like. If you want to moisturize your skin more, use Vitamin E or almond oil.

This natural deodorant is made with coconut oil.

Mix the baking soda with the cornstarch and tea tree oil in a cup or bowl. Add the coconut oil and stir it until it forms a paste. This is the time to add almond oil or Vitamin E. You can also add in essential oils with whatever fragrance you like. Some good options are lavender, eucalyptus, sandalwood or rose. Use only a couple drops because they give off a strong aroma. Put the preparation into a deodorant stick. At first this natural deodorant will be a little smooth and creamy, but after a few days, it’ll harden and look a lot like the ones you buy in the store.
