Today we’d like to tell you about a lemon-parsley remedy. This is because the consumption of various diuretic drinks has been recommended to reduce water retention. But first, let’s talk about this condition in more detail.

Water retention is a common metabolic disorder in women. It’s not quite a disease, it’s more of a sign that something isn’t right in your body. If you have swollen ankles, abdomen, or legs, you might need to see a doctor. It could be from a poor diet or even certain hormonal changes.

Experts say water retention can cover up kidney, liver, or circulation issues. This doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a serious problem, but your body isn’t properly removing toxins or other liquids.

That’s why it’s so important to diagnose. Luckily, this common issue is definitely reversible by improving your lifestyle habits and overall health.

A common problem

Water retention is a nuisance that can occur for various reasons. And it should be noted it doesn’t just affect a specific group of people. In fact, many people may suffer from it at some point in their lives.

It’s common in people with one or more of the following health problems:

Other possible causes of its appearance are the following:

  • Cirrhosis
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Certain medications
  • Bad eating habits
  • Remaining too long in the same position (sitting, standing, etc.)
  • Hormonal changes (premenstrual syndrome, pregnancy, menopause)

MSD Manual experts clarify the following: “although swelling may seem like a minor problem, especially if it doesn’t cause discomfort and disappears when the affected person sleeps, it can be a symptom of a serious disorder”. It’s therefore important to be vigilant.

If you often suffer from water retention and you still don’t know the cause, it’s important you see your doctor as soon as possible for a check-up, a diagnosis, and the measures you should take to improve your quality of life.

And if you already know the cause of the problem, be sure to follow the instructions of your treating physician. These will be key to your well-being, not only at the moment but in the long term.

Along with any treatment that the professional may prescribe, it’s ideal to improve your lifestyle habits. Especially in terms of exercise and diet.

A lemon-parsley remedy to reduce water retention

A bunch of parsley that helps reduce water retention.

The following lemon-parsley remedy could help reduce water retention naturally. How? You ask. Well, by hydrating the body and stimulating urination.

Therefore, this drink is attributed with diuretic and, to a lesser extent, antioxidant properties, since lemon is a fruit rich in these substances (as per Asociación 5 al día).

Ingredients

  • 4 c. of water
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 sprig of fresh parsley

Method

  • First, wash the parsley leaves well. After that, prepare an infusion with it.
  • Boil 1 cup of the water in a teapot and then add a sprig of parsley to the tea
  • Once the infusion is ready, let it stand a few minutes
  • Next, you’re going to squeeze out the lemon juice
  • Then, in a large pitcher, add the remaining 3 cups of water and the lemon peels, lemon juice, and parsley infusion
  • Let the mixture stand for half an hour, and then pour into a glass bottle

It isn’t proven that this lemon-parsley remedy is 100% effective as the only form of treatment against water retention. Therefore, if you want to take advantage of it, you should always include it within a healthy lifestyle.

On the other hand, if you replace the consumption of industrial beverages with juices, smoothies, shakes, infusions, and drinks like this one, you’ll be able to alleviate the discomfort more easily. In order for this action to provide you with even more benefits, follow the recommendations given by your doctor regarding diet. In this regard, remember that the consumption of salt and sugar greatly influences fluid retention and therefore, it’s advisable you learn to moderate yourself.
