4 Natural Treatments for Eye Pain
Eye pain can have many different causes. Spending excessive time in front of the computer, getting soap in your eyes in the shower, or an infection like conjunctivitis can cause this symptom, to name but three.
However, if you don’t want to resort to the usual solutions and would rather look for something more natural, today we’ll tell you about some natural eye pain treatments.
Treatments for eye pain

1. Hot compresses
This first treatment for eye pain provides highly effective relief if you have conjunctivitis. You just have to dip a compress in hot water and apply it for a few minutes on your eyes.
Although we don’t recommend chamomile, because pistils can get in your eyes and aggravate the infection, if you make it with a chamomile tea bag and strain it well, then you can use that water to soak the compress. Of course, you have to be very careful. To avoid potential problems you can choose to just moisten the compress with hot water.
2. Tea bags on your eyes
Another treatment for eye pain is to put tea bags on your eyes. You can use chamomile or green tea. As we already mentioned, you have to be very careful with chamomile.
If you only have chamomile, you can put a gauze over your eyes before putting the tea bag on. That way, you’ll protect your eyes as much as possible and prevent anything from getting in them. Let the bag sit for about ten minutes.
Putting tea bags on your eyes has many benefits, it will:
- Relax your eyes: If the eye pain is due to working many hours in front of the computer.
- Alleviate conjunctivitis: If you have this infection, tea bags will help you feel much better.
- Relieve allergies: If your eyes water because you’re allergic to pollen, for example, tea bags can help reduce tearing.
Caesalpinia belongs to the legume family and is a flower that helps improve eye conditions. To use it, extract the essence of the flowers and apply it to your eyes with great care.
To prepare this remedy for eye pain you have to boil water and add the leaves. Later, when it reaches the boiling point, turn off the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes.
After that time make sure to strain the mixture very well. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and wash your eyes with it. If you moisten a small piece of gauze or a compress, you can put it on your eyes for a few minutes.
4. Cold compresses
At the start of the article, we mentioned the importance of using warm compresses on your eyes. However, you can also use cold compresses to relieve and improve eye pain. To do so, it’s important to follow these tips:
- Soak a compress in cold water and drain it well before putting it on your eyes.
- If you use a tea or infusion, let it cool before soaking the compress and applying it to your eyes.
- Once the infusion has cooled, you can also put it in the fridge to apply it later to your eyes for a much cooler feel.

You can also wet cold compresses with tea or infused water, as indicated above. You can choose a hot or cold compress depending on what works best for pain relief.
Prevent eye pain
As we pointed out at the beginning, you should review your habits to prevent eye pain. If you work on a computer, for example, take frequent breaks, go for a walk and avoid focusing your eyes on a screen for a few minutes.
Also, if you use contact lenses, it’s important to wash your hands very well before touching your eyes to avoid getting eye infections. Also, avoid scratching or touching them constantly.
