Losing hair around your eyebrows and eyelashes is a common problem. We’ve all had times when we’ve looked in the mirror and suddenly noticed a few gaps in either region.

As you’re probably well aware, nowadays, having full, well-defined eyebrows is all the rage, and this look is acquiring a special kind of appeal.

But what do you do if yours are already thinning? Losing hair from your eyebrows and eyelashes can have various causes that we’ll explain below.

However, rest assured that it’s almost always temporary, and you can almost always recover lost hair with the proper course of treatment. Pay attention to what you’ll need to do.

What Causes Eyebrow and Eyelash Hair Loss?

As we said earlier, losing hair from your eyebrows or eyelashes is almost always temporary. But it’s important to first find out what’s causing it in order to identify the most appropriate course of treatment.

Let’s take a look at some of the factors that can cause this problem:

Stress

There are times when you probably feel more stressed out than normal. Your metabolism changes, the levels of cortisol in the body fluctuate, and these all affect your body’s functions.

This is precisely why stress is a common reason for experiencing this annoying issue.

Eczema or Topical Dermatitis

Eczema is a more serious issue that requires help from a dermatologist. It’s a disease that usually causes chronic redness, itching, and discomfort.

It also frequently affects the eyelid region, resulting in hair loss around the person’s eyebrows and eyelashes.

Eczema needs to be treated with the appropriate medication, which should also help stop the hair loss issue. Be sure and follow your doctor’s advice carefully.

Excessive Hair Removal

Obviously, we’re referring to tweezing or waxing your eyebrows here. When you pull a hair out by the root, it can take longer than usual to grow back. In fact, it could even take up to two weeks before you see that hair again.

So, you might be better off taking a more cautious approach towards tweezing, so as to not overdo it. You should also keep in mind that hairs can only regrow a certain number of times before they disappear forever.

If you’re over-plucking your eyebrows, you could even end up losing those hairs permanently.

Certain Medications

Certain medications, such as ones for arthritis, for example, can cause hair loss around the eyebrows or eyelashes.

If you have any questions about the side effects of medications you’ve been prescribed or are taking, it’s best to check with your doctor.

Changes in Metabolism

As you age, your metabolism slows down and that makes it easier to suffer from little imbalances that lead to hair loss.

Your hair follicles are less stimulated, meaning that hair growth slows. Eyelashes, for example, tend to fall out faster than they can grow back.

How to Treat Hair Loss Around Eyebrows and Eyelashes

Treating your Eyebrows

Natural Remedies for Hair Loss Around Eyebrows and Eyelashes
  • Increase your daily intake of folic acid, minerals like sulfur, and vitamins A, B3, and E. These are present in the following foods:
    • Brewer’s yeast
    • Eggs
    • Turkey
    • Carrots
    • Broccoli
    • Onions
    • Peaches
    • Peppers
  • Rosemary oil and castor oil: Both are great options and easy to find, either in regular grocery stores or natural food stores. All you need to do is moisten a cotton ball with the oil and massage it into your eyebrows every morning and evening. If you do this every day, it will help stimulate the growth of your eyebrow hair.

Chamomile

Here are the instructions on how to use chamomile to help grow back your eyelashes:
Ingredients

  • 1 bag of chamomile tea, or 20 grams of the dried herb
  • ½ cup of boiled or filtered water (100 ml)

Preparation

  • Bring the water to a boil, and add in the chamomile. Let it simmer for 15 minutes. Allow to cool slightly, but the tea should still be warm when you apply it to your eyelashes. Moisten the tip of a cotton swab, and swipe it across your eyelashes. Do this every day after removing your makeup.

Other Treatment Methods

  • Massage with olive oil: You can do this before you go to bed. Just moisten a cotton ball with a little olive oil and dampen your eyelash follicles. It’s really that simple!
  • Vaseline: When you get home in the evening, the first thing you should do is remove all traces of mascara and any other makeup from your eyes and eyelashes. Then dab on a bit of Vaseline, massaging it in. This helps stimulate the growth of stronger, thicker lashes.
  • Castor oil: As you already know, castor oil is excellent for treating hair loss around your eyebrows and eyelashes because it stimulates hair growth. All you need to do is follow this simple ritual: every night, moisten a cotton ball with a few drops of castor oil and apply by gently dabbing it around your eyelashes.

In a few weeks, you’ll start seeing amazing results!
