People often wonder what they should and should not eat. Whether it’s if you should eat protein after exercising, brown or white rice, animal products or not, gluten or not, etc. The answer is not always simple, because everyone is different and your diet will depend on your nutritional needs and medical conditions.  However, these are 5 foods you should never eat.

Although it is true that some foods can be more dangerous or healthy than others, the truth is that we cannot categorize food as “good or bad”. Each person is very different and therefore the effects of every food will vary person to person.

That being said, these are foods you should never eat because they have generally negative effects on almost everyone.

5 Foods You Should Never Eat

1. Foods You Don’t Like

You will not like every dish you get or everything on the restaurant menu, so why suffer? Food is our sustenance, that’s true, but it is also a pleasure and should be enjoyed. It’s also about a love for cooking and culinary art.

If the food tastes good, perfect, but if you don’t like it, don’t feel obligated to eat it. Most people “hate” a certain food, but they keep eating it because they think it is good for them.

Nevertheless, if you don’t like it, it is not good for you. It can obviously have nutritional benefits, but it will put you in a bad mood and you won’t enjoy your meal. It’s important to enjoy your food because otherwise, you will still be hungry for something delicious.

“Healthy food” is not just steamed broccoli and grilled chicken breast. There is an endless amount of healthy recipes, so try to be creative and make your taste buds happy while you stay healthy.

2. Foods that Make Your Body Feel Bad or Sick

If certain foods trigger pain or discomfort in your stomach, head, or joints, you shouldn’t eat them. You may love something, but after you eat it you feel bloated, lethargic and generally uncomfortable.

This can happen with any kind of food, depending on the person. However, white flours, dairy products, and meats tend to be the main culprits. Try to avoid said foods 99% of the time. The other 1% of the time is for you to enjoy, but be careful not to overeat.

If you consider this kind of occasional enjoyment as a “special treat,” you will enjoy it a lot more. Don’t forget that if you eat too much you will feel terrible later. Additionally, make sure you see a doctor just in case you have an allergy or disease that causes you to feel ill after eating these foods.

3. Food That Makes You Feel Guilty

You know exactly what we are talking about. Maybe you spend the entire weekend eating cakes, brownies, ice cream, French fries, fried chicken, pancakes, sweets, etc. However, you wake up on Monday feeling guilty and with a massive food hangover. Moreover, it feels like won’t disappear even though you spend the whole week eating super healthy.

Of course this happens: you punish yourself heavily the days after by following a strict diet that is impossible to do. Just like what happens after getting drunk, you promise not to do it again (although you shouldn’t believe it because you will repeat the cycle the following weekend).

Feeling guilty for eating is horrible and pointless. Feeling ashamed about eating in an unhealthy way for a short period of time makes you feel unhappy with your body and forces you to eat things that you may not like just because they are healthy.

This technique is not recommended, for many reasons. First, you won’t lose the fat you’ve already gained. Second, your stomach won’t understand what is happening. As a result, it may become more sensitive if you eat healthy during the week but eat loads of fat, sugar, and junk on weekends.

If you tend to have parties, go out, or order delivery on the weekend, don’t eat too much. Have a balanced diet. Don’t eat what will make you feel guilty. After all, food should taste incredible but should also make you feel good. If you finish your plate and you feel sad and guilty, is it really worth it?

4. Foods That You Simply Can’t Stop Eating

Is there a food that you simply cannot stop eating once you’ve opened it? A food that if not finished, you won’t stop putting in your mouth? A food that if no matter what time it is, you still want to eat? Has someone had to tell you, “stop eating that already”?

If you strongly crave this food constantly, especially when you don’t have it at home, then you should eliminate it from your diet. Or, at the very least, you should only have this food occasionally and make sure you don’t have it at home or in large quantities.

When you think about addicting foods, surely French fries, chocolate, hamburgers, and pizza come to mind. These junk foods chemically alter the responses in your brain and can become very addictive. However, it’s not just junk food: you can also be addicted to healthy foods.

It may be a strawberry jam, your grandmother’s homemade cookies, or a salad, although these cases are minor. If you cannot stop eating Brussels sprouts, then that’s probably okay! Just make sure it doesn’t become extreme.

5. Food That Isn’t Food

High fructose corn syrup is not food. Modified corn starch is not food. Artificial dyes and flavors are not food. Cellulose (wood pulp often found in grated cheese) is not food. Propylene glycol? Not food either.

However, big food industries add these and other ingredients to pre-packaged and processed foods. These ingredients are used for many things, like saving money for the company, helping another company, making consumers addicted, and using cheaper ingredients that last longer.

However, none of these ingredients are used because they are healthier or good for you.

It’s best to make your own food with real ingredients and organic or local products. Additionally, you should consume high-quality animal protein such as grass-fed beef without antibiotics or hormones, fish that is not farm-raised, and free-range chicken.

Be sure to read over labels very carefully. If there is an ingredient that you don’t recognize or can’t pronounce, don’t eat it.
