Abdominal pain is a very common and widespread condition that can affect us at any time.  This can be very diverse and can have very different causes.

So, we have to know the cause of the pain, as it may be due to poor digestion, gas, acidity or inflammation, among many other causes.

Most of the time, abdominal pain does not indicate any serious illness. The majority of cases are intestinal colics associated with fatty food or food poisoning.

Mild stomach pains, that only last for a bit or that disappear after a few hours, are usually caused by the intestine expanding because of gas. Anxiety episodes can cause short-term abdominal pain because the amount gases in the intestines increases.

4 natural remedies to soothe abdominal pain

1. Ginger and lemon for abdominal pain

Soothe abdominal pain

Ginger root is known in many parts of the world for its powerful anti-inflammatory and digestive action. When combined with a little lemon juice  it is even more effective since these 2 ingredients will control excess acidity, incredible as it may seem.

Lemon is an alkaline food because of its high content of citric acids. Consuming it reduces abdominal swelling, relieves dizziness and calms pain.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water (500 ml)
  • 1 grated ginger root (15 g)
  • Juice from 1 lemon

Preparation

  • First, heat the water and add the ginger root.
  • Wait until it boils, turn it off, and let stand for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Finally, add the lemon juice, and drink.

2. Chamomile tea for abdominal pain

The main use of chamomile is related to different digestive disorders because it is a protective and reparative plant for the gastric membrane because it promotes the production of gastric juices.

So, it is recommended for indigestion, when you have nausea and vomiting. It is very effective against gases and flatulence. Its smoothness does not alter the intestinal rhythm, but helps  motility.

Ingredients

Preparation

  • Heat the water and add the spoon of chamomile.
  • Wait until it boils, turn it off and let stand 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Finally, pour the infusion into a cup, and drink it.

3. Baking soda and lemon

Baking soda and lemon

Drinking a glass of water with baking soda and lemon can relieve stomach pain, especially when the cause is flatulence or slow digestion caused by fatty foods. Sodium bicarbonate helps to eliminate the gases that our body has difficulty expelling due to slow digestion or because of large or very greasy meals .

The combination of baking soda with lemon is one of the best ways to calm stomach symptoms (such as, for example, acidity) and, combined with lemon, the effects are even better. Lemon is a powerful detoxifier.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (3 g)
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)

Preparation

  • First, add a teaspoon of sodium to the glass of water and mix well.
  • Add the lemon juice and stir all the ingredients.
  • When it is a homogeneous mixture, drink it.

4. Apple cider vinegar for abdominal pain

Apple cider vinegar has alkaline properties which improve intestinal transit. So, it helps relieve symptoms associated with gastrointestinal problems.

It also regulates the natural pH of our stomach and decreases the amount of gases in the digestive tract.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (5 ml)
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)

Preparation

  • Add the vinegar to the cup of water and mix well, then drink the mixture.

We don’t recommend consuming foods that cause flatulence. You should  also avoid foods that are irritating, spicy or stimulating and that can increase stomach movements and generate more pain.

Follow these simple recipes and calm those unbearable abdominal pains.
