Dandruff, or pityriasis, is simply the accumulation of dead skin cells on your scalp. A large percentage of people have it, both men and women. It’s quite a pain, though, since it can be itchy and unsightly. In extreme cases, it can actually cause hair loss.

Everyone who’s had (or currently has) dandruff has probably tried all kinds of things to get rid of it, some more are effective than others. However, there’s good news!

Tricks with aspirin for dandruff

Recently, aspirin has been proven to be an effective solution for dandruff. This pain reliever contains salicylic acid, which gives it antimicrobial and antifungal powers and thus the ability to fight dandruff.

Topical use of aspirin on your scalp is also good for reducing inflammation, reducing itchiness, exfoliating, and oxygenating your skin cells — to name just a few other benefits. If you want to say goodbye to dandruff once and for all, just follow these simple tips.

1. Shampoo with aspirin

First of all, you want to pick a shampoo with the lowest amounts of chemical additives and fragrance, because those two things will only worsen your condition. Then follow the steps below.

Shampoo with aspirin for dandruff.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of shampoo (45 ml)
  • 3 aspirin tablets

Instructions

  • Take the shampoo, and after crushing the aspirin into a powder, combine them. Set aside.
  • Wet your hair and then wash it with the shampoo-aspirin mixture. Rub it into your scalp for 5 minutes. Remember that you need to get deep down into your hair follicles.
  • Next, let the salicylic acid work for 5 more minutes. Then wash with plenty of water. You can use your normal conditioner or one designed for dandruff.
  • Wash your hair at least twice a week with your homemade dandruff shampoo. You’ll notice significantly less itchiness, and you’ll gradually see less dandruff, until it finally disappears completely.

2. Aspirin spray

Aspirin tablets.

Ingredients

  • 9 aspirin tablets
  • 2 cups of water (500 ml)

Instructions

  • Crush the aspirin into a powder and add it to the water, previously heated. Let it cool and then pour into a spray bottle.
  • Each night before bed, spray the mixture onto your hair, from your scalp down to the ends.
  • In the morning, wash your hair with the dandruff shampoo (above).
  • Another option is to use a spray like this one again after you’ve washed your hair with the homemade dandruff shampoo.

Before you start using aspiring for dandruff, it’s a good idea to test for allergies or other adverse effects. To do so, apply a bit of the aspirin shampoo to your scalp. If everything’s normal after a few hours, then you can proceed.

Additional recommendations for dandruff

  • Brush your hair gently but frequently to stimulate cell regeneration.
  • Try not to stay out in the sun for too long in order to keep yourself from sweating too much, which can slow down the effects of the treatment.
  • Drink enough water. Dandruff is partly caused by dry skin, so keeping yourself hydrated will go a long way.
  • Eat foods high in zinc, sulfur, vitamin E, vitamin C, and vitamin A. They will help your scalp recover much more quickly.
