Author Carl Honoré warns us that this kind of dynamic in life will end up destroying us. Also, he adds:

Honoré realized this one night while reading bedtime stories to his little son. That day, he noticed that he felt like the Snow White book he was reading was missing the dwarves. Every single one was missing, just like he was missing so much of his life.

He wondered and realized: “What’s happened? I realized I should slow down, but it wasn’t easy in a world full of duties and impatience.”

How can we live without being in a hurry?

To adapt a slower rhythm of life, it’s important to work on the following:

  • First, reset the way you think. Learn to calm your thoughts and stop forcing yourself to respond to external stimuli.
  • Meditate to attain peace of mind.
  • Do yoga or other relaxing activities to help your nervous system stabilize.

Work without excess, because there’s a higher chance of bad performance and of getting sick when you live in excess. Sometimes, you must do less to attain more.
  • Reduce your workload and instead spend a few minutes on the relaxation technique of your choice.
  • We often want to finish faster, so we do something quickly. However, this doesn’t mean we’re doing it better. So, take the time you need to accomplish every single one of your tasks.
  • Honoré discovered that everything in the kitchen requires exact time and patience. So cook. Cooking is a great way to relax and wait while everything falls into place.
  • Claim time for yourself and start doing a craft or hobby you enjoy.
  • Enjoy your moments of leisure as they help clear your mind. Enjoy those brief moments in which you have nothing to do and relax.
  • Stop rushing. The world won’t stop spinning if you walk a little bit slower. It only takes about fifteen minutes of every morning or evening to give yourself some time to just walk and enjoy the scenery.
  • Finally, practice slowness when you have sex and truly enjoy making love. Look deeply into your lover’s eyes, awaken each sense and truly feel the contact of each other’s skin.

By following these simple guidelines, you won’t just join the slow movement; you’ll also adopt a new philosophy of life.
