The Merriam-Webster defines Pharyngitis as “inflammation of the pharynx.” The pharynx, commonly known as the throat, is the cavity that extends from the back of the nose and mouth to the beginning of the larynx and esophagus.

1. Reliving the Symptoms of Pharyngitis with Baking Soda
Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, is a natural antiseptic with soothing properties. It’s a great anti-inflammatory for the tonsils and throat.
Here’s how to use it:
- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 1 c. of water
- Bottle with a cap
- Add the baking soda and the water to the bottle. Shake it well.
- Gargle for 1 minute.
- Spit it out and repeat.
2. Lemon and Honey
This is possibly the best natural combination to fight colds and infections. This remedy is a great way to disinfect and slightly reduce inflammation in any affected area.
In addition, honey is a powerful expectorant, so it’s highly recommended to eliminate dry cough, phlegm, and many other types of respiratory conditions as well.
- 2 lemons
- 1 tbsp honey
- First, in a cup, squeeze the lemons and add the honey.
- Next, stir it well.
- Then, drink it twice a day: in the morning after you get up and before you go to bed.
3. A Soft Diet
One of the most well-known symptoms of pharyngitis is difficulty swallowing. This includes not being able to swallow at all or having difficulty swallowing solid foods. For this reason, perhaps you should follow a soft diet. By “soft,” we mean soups, juices, and smoothies.
Cream soups are excellent to keep you well fed and at the same time make easy the swallowing. Also, you can make them with any vegetable you may currently have in your fridge.

- Then, remove as much pus as you can and then toss out the cotton swab.

7. Relieving the Symptoms of Pharyngitis by Gargling with Warm Water and Salt
Salt is an excellent antibacterial to use in pharyngeal infections. This remedy not only helps eliminate microorganisms, but also relieves discomfort:
- 1 c. of warm water
- 1 tbsp salt
- First, dilute the water and the salt.
- Next, proceed to gargle for one minute.
- Then, spit it out and repeat the process at least two more times.
