Due to the high fiber content in celery juice, it’s an excellent remedy to alleviate constipation. It’s a good idea to add some fruits like apple, pear, or pineapple in order to dilute the strong flavor of the juice. You can also make celery juice in a savory recipe like gazpacho, using tomato, cucumber, pepper, and garlic.

It’s recommended to be drunk occasionally to avoid straining your kidney function. You should also drink celery juice in between meals to make it more effective. Half an hour before each main meal of the day is ideal.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds (15 g)
  • 3 prunes
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1 organic apple
  • ½ cup of ground almonds (35 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (25 g)
  • 1 cup of water (200 ml)

Instructions

  • On the evening before, soak the chia seeds and the prunes in the cup of water.
  • Add all ingredients to the blender, including the apple with the peel still on.
  • Blend for at least two minutes to get a smooth texture. If it’s too thick you can add more water.
  • The best time to consume this smoothie and regulate your intestinal function is in the morning on an empty stomach.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the best thing for your digestive system is to have breakfast before 7am. This smoothie will still be good for you if you drink it later than that hour.

It’s very high in fiber, which makes it very satisfying. If you’re still hungry after drinking this smoothie you can enjoy your normal breakfast, but wait at least half an hour beforehand.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to facilitate the digestion of the fiber. If you skip this step, it could lead to an intestinal blockage. Try drinking this smoothie for several days until your bowel movements are more regulated. If you normally have a low-fiber diet, you might notice that your symptoms actually get worse in the first few days as your body adjusts.

With a little patience and lots of water, you’ll quickly notice the benefits. If you still continue having problems with constipation after following a balanced diet that’s high in fiber, then you should talk to your doctor to find a way to get rid of any other serious health problems.
