Habit Changes that Lead to Weight Loss

· January 28, 2015

For the most part, having a balanced weight depends more on following good habits than following weight loss diets to a “T”.  Good habits are also a healthier and more balanced way of helping you to feel better without effort nor sacrifices.

Here we’re going to give just a few simple tips that are neither too difficult to follow nor take up too much time, and can certainly lead to weight loss.

You don’t always need to stuff yourself

We need to educate our stomachs, because it will adapt to the amount of food that you habitually give it.  You should also avoid those moments when you eat just to eat.  It isn’t that hard to get used to not stuffing yourself, but to rather stop before you’re full.  One trick is to drink a digestive tea after each meal.

Chew your beverages, drink your food

With this rule, you need to understand that eating quickly causes weight gain, and it also doesn’t nourish the body.  The truth is, digestion starts in the mouth because saliva contains enzymes that start the digestive process.  The better you chew your food, the better you will absorb it, and you’ll also eat less.  It has been proven that hunger lasts between 15 and 20 minutes.  If you eat with a leisurely pace, you won’t feel the need to continue eating after this period of time.

Eat more protein

In this article, we are going to explain the benefits of eating enough protein daily, rather than overeating carbohydrates (bread, pastries, pasta, etc.), which is what generally happens.  Protein, both vegetable as well as animal, helps weight loss, reduces waist lines, and tones and firms muscles.

Learn healthy recipes

An interest in cooking will be a point in your favor when discovering new healthy recipes using ingredients you never used before.   The ones that will help you lose weight are:

  • Plant-based drinks from rice, oatmeal, etc.
  • Seaweed (agar agar can be used to make some very surprised, light recipes)
  • Spices: ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, curry, cayenne…
  • Less known whole grains: millet, wheat, buckwheat, quinoa, etc.
  • Fruit smoothies.

Stop eating pre-made food

A lot of times what causes the weight gain is when you’re hungry and yet, you don’t have anything ready, you end up quickly eating anything, which causes weight gain.  That’s why it’s always a good idea to always cook more and leave some in the fridge, like natural juices, fruit salads, vegetable soups, salads, etc.

Be careful with your combinations

Combining a lot of different foods in just one meal, like what usually happens during banquets and celebrations, is one of the things that causes the most weight gain, and also affects health.  Although there are always exceptions, always try to include some sort of vegetable, carbohydrates and a bit of protein, whenever possible.

Avoid refined foods

It’s not hard at all to always choose the whole option.  You can educate your palate as well, and you might even enjoy the taste of whole foods better over time, which are not only rich in fiber and more satiating, but they also contain more vitamins and minerals.

Getting used to drinking infusions made from medicinal plants will help fill the stomach between meals, as well as enjoying their health benefits.  Drink them hot or cold, combined with lemon and sweetened with stevia.  We recommend, for example, using citrus peels, avocado seed, infusions for the liver or digestive system.

Dinner causes weight gain

The pace with which you live life marks however much energy you require at any moment, and generally, whatever you eat at night, you don’t burn.  This is why you should eat an early and light dinner, sometime before 8 pm if possible.  Also, during early morning hours, according the Traditional Chinese Medicine, is when the liver and gallbladder work, which is why you shouldn’t be digesting any meals, so these organs can self-heal.

Drink a lot of water

Water cleanses the body and fills the stomach whenever you have a craving to munch on something but aren’t really that hungry.  A lot of times someone can be thirsty, and the body confuses the signal.  We suggest always drinking a glass of water whenever you want to munch on something.  If you’re still hungry afterward, you could chose something healthy, like anything listed in the previous points.
