The Four Life Stages and Their Crises

Last update: 15 December, 2022

When we’re born, there are four important life stages ahead for us that we have to live in the best possible way. However, we’re often not aware of these stages and the crises found in each of them. Thus, we decided to share them in this article!

The four life stages

Childhood

Childhood.

The first life stage is none other than childhood. But what kind of crisis could there be in the sweetest stage of a human’s life?

It’s, without a doubt, the home and parents. Many children are raised in destructive, unstable families that don’t give them the love and care they need.

Many children will grow up with emotional wounds and deficiencies that will manifest in their adult life and cause problems in their relationships with others.

Spending quality time with your children and letting them be kids, play, enjoy life, and not be the object of your frustrations are all necessary.

Adolescence

A teenager.

Adolescence is a key time in the formation of an individual’s personality. During this stage, people feel the most pressure to feel good about themselves and find a place in the world.

It’s in this stage when a person has their first body-related crisis. Fitting into society’s beauty norms, or succumbing to the pressure of looking a certain way, can trigger various problems such as bulimia or anorexia.

Creating healthy bonds with other people and addressing any problems that may come up and lead to low self-esteem  as soon as possible is essential.

Teenagers will soon become young adults that will experience the effects of any of these unresolved issues and face the repercussions for the rest of their lives.

Maturity (Middle age)

Middle-aged man.

This stage of life is characterized by stability, but that doesn’t mean that crises can’t rear their ugly heads.

Having a stable, albeit boring, job or feeling the pressure of starting a family can overwhelm a person in this very important part of their existence.

Many people don’t dare switch jobs and those who do may go through a costly, difficult crisis from having made a bad decision.

When it comes to having a family, people in this stage try to escape from the much-feared singleness and the social pressure to find a spouse or have children. It could lead to ending up with someone who you shouldn’t actually be with.

It’s important to not let yourself be led by what others say or by comments like “The clock is ticking”.

Old age

Old age.

You’ve gone through three stages of life and now you’re in the last one, old age, where you find retirement and more life enjoyment. However, this stage of life is sometimes defined by loneliness.

People whose children have left to live their own lives or whose spouses have passed away may end up depressed in a still, quiet home.

However, it’s a wonderful time to do anything and everything you want, things you’ve never been able to do in the past. Traveling, meeting new people, and doing things that make you happy… Everything is possible with the right attitude and enthusiasm.

Each one of these life stages has its positives and negatives. However, what you really need to do is go through each of them fully, exactly how you want to, while being yourself.

Living with bitterness isn’t an option, and neither is being where you don’t want to be. Life goes by too fast to waste time being someone else.

Do everything you can to make your journey exquisite. T ry to focus on the here and now.
