I Don’t Know What to Do With My Life: 5 Strategies to Find Your Way

If your path is not self-evident, it's time to start creating it yourself. Learn 5 strategies to help find your way through the maze of life.

There are certain times in life when you might be struggling to find your path.

It may be a career you’re unsure of, the fear of not finding a job, and an endless number of other situations that your environment is pressuring you to resolve.

When this happens to you, keep in mind the following five strategies that will help you find your way.

The key is that if it is not self-evident, it’s time to create it yourself.

5 strategies to find your way

1. Try getting out of your comfort zone

If you stay in one place, it will be harder than ever to truly find your way.

The more things that you can do – studying, traveling, making new friends, or immersing yourself in a new activity – the better.

Keep moving and try new things. This will keep you active and help you explore beyond the comfort zone in which you feel so safe, yet so frustrated.

Take advantage of all that pressure you sense around you to get you off the sofa and recognize how unfulfilled you feel because you feel like the only one who hasn’t been able to find your way.

2. Listen to yourself

Perhaps the discouraging thoughts that invade your mind and cause you to feel anxious about your situation are preventing you from listening to yourself.

Sometimes you might be afraid to do this, because listening carefully can show you both the good and the bad of what you’re currently doing.

If you find yourself feeling lost, go with your “sixth sense” and let yourself be guided by intuition. Perhaps you can’t find your way because you’re overthinking things too much.

“This career is a dead end,” or “I’ll never find a job” are thoughts that result from unfounded fears that are blocking you.

Let yourself go and don’t anticipate the future. This is preventing you from seeing all of your possibilities.

3. Don’t try to fix your flaws

It’s likely that on more than one occasion you’ve wasted your time trying to solve everything you don’t like about yourself or that makes you insecure.

It’s time to stop. You’re wasting valuable time! Instead, start trying to empower all of your gifts and talents.

Do you think you don’t have any? That’s because you’ve never paid attention to them.

Don’t underestimate yourself. Pay attention to what you’re good at and what makes you stand out. No matter how small that gift may be, you can strengthen it and make it great.

Why not start today?

4. Think about what you want

This might sound easy, but most people don’t  know what they really want.

This can make you feel lost and trapped. You need to take your time and let the pressure push you along once you discover the direction that you’ve decided to follow.

If you don’t know what you want, it’s impossible to go out in search of something you wish to find. Your goals have to be concrete.

Waiting won’t bring you anything but stress, nor will letting yourself get carried away by negative thoughts.

It’s time for you to answer the question “what do you want?” and start moving forward.

5. Shoot for the moon

If you dream small, you have less opportunities to take risks and do great things. It’s not unreasonable to dream big if you like something and want to achieve a certain goal.

Do you want a job? Look for the one that’s the best, the one that will make you proud. Don’t sell yourself short.

Would you like to have a career? Do what you think is going to be best for you, not because the work is out there but because of how much you’re going to learn and grow.

When you dream big, you seek your own happiness. You don’t conform and you don’t think about the mediocre. You have the ability to get everything that you want.

Perhaps the fact that you haven’t already found your way is related to your unwillingness to dare to do the impossible.

Maybe that’s the path that has always been waiting for you to travel.
