How to Do Oil Pulling

Every morning, before eating or drinking anything or brushing your teeth, put a tablespoon of sunflower or sesame oil into your mouth. Then swish it around for 10 to 20 minutes, as if you were rinsing with mouthwash.

You can swish the oil around using your jaw and tongue, aiming to move the oil around every area of your mouthAfter the recommended time, the oil will become both thicker and foamy, and you may then spit it out. The oil should be a whitish color. If it’s still yellow, swish for longer next time.

You can now wash out your mouth with water and brush your teeth. Ideally, you should drink either one or two glasses of water afterwards to strengthen the cleansing action.

You may experience a healing crisis when you first begin using this technique. You may break out and have headaches, for example. These symptoms mean that your body is cleansing. They should be light and last only a few days. If the reaction is strong or lasts longer, reduce the length of your oil pulling sessions or oil-pull every second or third day.
