Hydrogen peroxide should be in every first aid kit. After all, it’s useful in all kinds of situations. However, it’s good at more than just disinfecting cuts. It can also be of great use in beauty treatments.

The powers of hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide (H202) is found in most homes as a disinfectant and antiseptic. If you want to get the most out of it, however, here are a few of its cosmetic applications:

1. Diminish the appearance of spots on your skin

With the passing of the years, spots may begin showing up on your skin, especially your face, whether from the sun, the cold, or from not exfoliating.

That’s why dark spots appear, and many don’t know how to hide them. The good news is that hydrogen peroxide can make them less noticeable. Just use it in moderation and in small amounts.

What do I do?

  • After exfoliating your face and washing well, moisten a cotton ball with hydrogen peroxide.
  • Smooth over the spots, let sit for a few minutes, then rinse.
  • Repeat once or twice a week, always at night.

2. To get rid of pimples

Acne isn’t just a teenage thing. It can also happen in other stages of life. This may include during menstruation (for women) when you’re under a lot of stress, or if you eat a diet that’s high in fat.

Pimples are produced when your pores are blocked. Since hydrogen peroxide is an excellent disinfectant, it can eliminate bacteria that accumulates on your skin.
What do I do?

  • It’s as simple as smoothing some hydrogen peroxide over the affected areas after showering before bed.
  • Repeat daily and don’t forget to rinse well in the morning.

3. Whiten teeth

Would you like a shiny, white smile like you see on toothpaste commercials? Are you tired of yellowish teeth from smoking, coffee, or just getting older?

Hydrogen peroxide can be a big help. You can make it even more effective if you also eat certain raw foods like carrots, apples, and celery.

What do I do?

  • It’s easy: moisten a cotton ball or brush in hydrogen peroxide. After brushing your teeth like normal at night, smooth it over each tooth.
  • If you don’t have time, you can rinse your mouth with a mixture of one part hydrogen peroxide with three parts warm water for 10 minutes.
  • Use this treatment only once a week because otherwise you can damage your enamel.

4. Get rid of stains on your nails

When you always have your nails painted, they don’t have a chance to “breathe.” This can make them fragile and breakable and have unsightly white or yellowish stains.

What do I do?

  • To get them back to their normal color, soak your fingers in a container with water and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide for 5 minutes.
  • After this time, rinse and dry well. Try to not paint your nails for at least two days.
  • Every time you remove nail polish, repeat the process.

5. Lighten your hair

If you don’t want to or can’t spend money at a beauty salon, you can get beautiful highlights with hydrogen peroxide. It’s a great idea for summer.

Most hair dyes contain hydrogen peroxide, though at a different concentration than you use to disinfect wounds.

However, it can help you lighten certain hair colors. Get out your first aid kit out and find the hydrogen peroxide!

What do I do?

  • Put a bit of it in a spray bottle and fill with water (the ratio should be 1 to 1).
  • Wash your hair like normal. With your hair still damp (dry with a towel) spray a small amount as you comb.
  • Don’t rinse, and repeat two or three times a week.
  • You’ll see results in about a month. It’ll be more subtle and natural than you’d get with professionally done lightening.

6. Eliminate bad odors

If you sweat excessively, especially in the summer or whenever it’s hot, hydrogen peroxide can be a big help.

Thanks to its antibacterial effect, it will eliminate the microorganisms responsible for bad odor in your underarms or feet.

What do I do?

  • To use hydrogen peroxide as a deodorant, moisten a cotton ball in it and smooth over your underarm area.
  • You can also sprinkle a bit in your shoes or socks before putting them on.

7. Lighten body hair

In the same way that hydrogen peroxide can lighten your hair, it can also work to make body hair less noticeable.

For example, if you don’t like the dark hair on your arms, hydrogen peroxide can help.

What do I do?

  • Apply once a week before showering.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse with warm water.
  • To speed up the process, we recommend exposing the area to the sun after application, even if it’s through a window.
