Spring is a season of new beginnings, great joys, longer days, nicer temperatures… and it is a warm-up period for summer and vacation. Although we should certainly take care of ourselves all year long, during the colder months, we tend to eat more and do less exercise.
That’s why we’ve put together this article, full of tips to help you eliminate toxins in your body and get your figure ready for summer.
Cleanse your body for summer
We all take advantage of springtime to clean out our homes, open up the windows and put away our big winter coats. So, what about our bodies?
During the winter months, your body has surely accumulated a ton of toxins and contaminants that are absorbed through your skin, the air your breath, the foods you eat, your bad habits and a lack of physical exercise, among other factors.
It’s time for you to get rid of the things that aren’t contributing anything positive to your body: excess body weight, toxins and waste that has built up in your body throughout the colder months. You don’t have to starve yourself or stick to drinking nothing but room temperature lemon water to achieve this goal.
Even if you don’t like participating in “healthy” activities, you can start adding certain habits to your routine that will help you cleanse your body and get it ready for summer. Have you tried on your bathing suit lately? Are you hoping to fit into your clothes from last season? Do you feel tired and uncomfortable? Well, time to purify your body!
How to eliminate toxins that build up during winter
Over the next few weeks, you should try to follow at least two of these tips for detoxifying your body and getting it ready for summer.
Don’t eat gluten or processed foods
Processed foods have been stripped of their nutrients, leaving you with a slew of artificial components in your body. Most of the “foods” including flavoring agents, preservatives, thickeners and any other unhealthy additive that you can think of.
For example, gluten (the wheat protein that is also present in lots of processed foods) causes you to experience a slower metabolism and allows toxins to build up in your body. If you stop eating gluten for a week (we know it’s hard, but it’s worth it), you’ll feel much better and you’ll be able to get rid of a lot of those toxins.
Eat green grapes every day
Grapes have tons of detoxifying qualities. Therefore, eating them before summertime can help you get rid of the toxins that have built up in your organs throughout winter, because grapes help move those toxins to the intestines so they can then be eliminated. Grapes are rich in fiber, making them a great tool for fighting constipation.
In addition to taking advantages of the benefits offered by grapes, you absolutely must drink plenty of water to move the detoxification process along.
Drink one cup of green tea per day
You can drink it hot or cold, whichever you prefer (and whichever version is better suited to the temperature in your area). In addition to green tea, you can makes teas from dandelion or neem. These herbs, when made into teas, allow you body to speed up the detoxification process.
You can also make tea with turmeric powder, an herb often used in Indian food. All of these teas will help you get rid of the toxins in your body by eliminating them through your urine.
Avoid consuming refined sugar
Just like white flour, white sugar is bad for your health for a number of reasons. In the first place, this type of sugar goes through a refining process that removes all the nutrients found in the original plant. But the fact that refined sugar doesn’t provide the body with any benefits is not the only problem. If it were, we wouldn’t be so worried.
Sugar is very hard to digest and it has a huge effect on your blood sugar levels. It will surely be hard to quit a habit as strong as consuming sugar, but try your best to stay away from refined sugars and artificial sweeteners. Want to know what you can use as a substitute? Raw sugar and stevia leaves are the best two alternatives.
Stretching will certainly help you speed up the detoxification process. As you stretch, the oxygenated blood in your body moves to all the corners of your body, grabbing onto the toxins it finds and then eliminating them in a few different ways (urine, feces, sweat).
Exercises such as yoga and Tai Chi are great activities for springtime, especially if you aren’t a huge fan of sports.
Take deep breaths
Most of us underestimate the air’s cleansing powers, in addition to the methods described above. Plus, most of us forget to take deep, conscious breaths.
When you wake up in the morning, take a few minutes to take 8 to 10 deep breaths, all with your eyes clothes. You’ll find this to be an invigorating and cleansing experience, not just for your body, but for your mind and emotions.
Make sure to go to the bathroom
If you try to get rid of the waste in your body, but fail to do it correctly, all your efforts could end up being useless. In fact, you may even end up doing more harm than good. Daily bowel movements are key to the cleansing process.
If you are unable to achieve this goal, you should consider taking a light herbal supplement and eating plenty of Greek yogurt and fruit. And don’t forget to drink water!
Drink water with lemon, pepper and vinegar
Speaking of water, drink a large glass of filtered water with the juice of half a lemon, half a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and a pinch of cayenne pepper before breakfast to increase your energy level and stimulate your metabolism so that it will eliminate the toxins in your vital organs.
Drink this mixture every day for at least one week, always on an empty stomach.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and one of the main organs responsible for eliminating toxins from the body. Saunas, hot baths and steam baths are all great options when it comes to detoxification, because they all help you sweat.
By taking these types of baths, you can get rid of up to 20% of the toxins and waste in your body through your skin. You can also achieve this goal by exercising daily. Make sure to stay fully hydrated so you don’t get tired out!
