If you’re like most people, you probably haven’t given yourself time to rest and get away from it all in a long time.

You know it’s important to concentrate on your commitments, but if you are extremely mentally exhausted, it’s time to stop.

1. Judge your victories by effort, not by results

One of the main causes of mental exhaustion is overexertion. The majority of us were taught to measure our victories by results.

Another way to fight mental fatigue is to set aside a large part of your responsibilities. When you move forward in your life or towards a goal just because you have to, it gradually turns into a heavy burden.

This applies to anything from taking care of your kids, your job, or your new business.

On the other, passion is more powerful than any other energy. Find what you like to do and incorporate it into your daily routine.

You may have to work 9 to 5 doing something that you don’t particularly like but that helps you pay the bills. In this case, pick up a hobby that you really love. It could be an afternoon class or playing a sport on the weekends.

Let this turn your life around, and gradually your daily routine will become more manageable.

3. Reconnect with nature


Be honest: how connected are you to nature? Even if you’re someone who tries to take care of the environment, you probably rarely leave the office to take a walk.

Or maybe you wouldn’t call yourself “outdoorsy.” Luckily, we aren’t saying you should go on an nature outing every other day or go climb a giant mountain.

We’re talking about getting outside 15 minutes a day. Anything you can think of counts, from going for a walk or run to gardening to feeding the birds in the neighborhood park.

If you have a dog, take advantage and make walking him a daily habit to effectively fight mental exhaustion.

4. Eat the right amount of the right proteins

Since your brain uses more energy than most of your other organs, eating negative calories or too much sugar will just make you feel more tired.

Instead, make an effort to consume the most natural foods possible. Ideal foods are those without natural sugars or with a small amount of them, like fruit.

It’s also good to limit your regular sodium intake. Start by eliminating the most damaging foods bit by bit.

5. Eliminate processed sugar and alcohol completely


Do you think you could give up alcohol for a whole day? How about two? If you could avoid alcohol for a whole week, you would quickly feel your mental exhaustion melt away.

In addition, you would feel more alert and in a few weeks have more energy and fewer pounds of fat. Here’s what you need to do:

  • The first step is to read the labels on all of the foods and drinks you regularly consume. You’ll be surprised at the amount of processed sugars you’re taking in from seemingly innocent foods.
  • Likewise, you also need to eliminate as much alcohol as possible. Even though red wine, beer, and other beverages can be good for you, it’s better to stay away from them when your body is overwhelmed with fatigue.

Remember that consuming alcohol should be an occasional treat, and always in small amounts.

6. Develop strict sleeping habits

It’s a fact that the most successful people have very strict sleep habits. You rarely see them sleeping outside of their established schedule or for longer than they should.

Both kids and adults need a well defined sleep routine. This lets your mind know when to rest and reduces mental exhaustion.

This doesn’t mean you’ll never feel tired again, as this depends on your daily activities and other factors.
