5 Moisturizing Masks for Burnt Hair

The hairdryer, and especially the straightening tongs, are spoiling our hair, even to the point of burning it. The result is rough, frizzy hair that has lost its shine. To help you reverse some of this damage, here are several moisturizing masks for burnt hair. Some homemade ingredients, such as eggs or honey, have been used for centuries to improve the appearance of hair.

If you have any allergies or skin problems, it’s essential that you consult your dermatologist.

Causes of burnt hair

Burnt hair can be caused by excessive use of straighteners and hairdryers. However, it can also be caused by too much exposure to the sun, saltwater from the sea, chlorine from the swimming pool, dyes, excessively hot water, and some chemical treatments. All of these factors can cause our hair to look “burnt”, and even to literally be burnt.

Many women believe that the only possible solution to this problem is to cut their hair off. However, it’s possible to resort to some home and natural treatments to try and slowly restore your hair.

How does hair get burnt?

Before you determine which treatment is best (home or otherwise), you need to know why your hair is like this. Damaged hair that looks dry and breaks easily may be burnt, dull, split, or frayed at the ends.

The hair structure is made up of the cuticle, cortex, and medulla. Heat damage to the hair can be found on the surface, or the cuticle.

In these cases, the outermost protective layer, which is responsible for the appearance, is damaged. If you could look under a microscope at a healthy strand of hair you would see that it has a kind of “armoring”. The opposite happens with a damaged hair, because it’s straight, as if electrified.

A very interesting tip is to stimulate the blood circulation of the scalp. This will promote the growth of healthy hair. In addition, according to a study, the thickness of hair can increase with a scalp massage.

  • Every day, take five minutes to massage your head (you can do this while watching TV).

Home remedies for burnt hair

1. Olive oil and rosemary

If we add the moisturizing properties of olive oil and the antioxidant properties of rosemary, we can get a combination that will help damaged or burnt hair to recover. It will also protect it from new aggressions.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup olive oil (50 ml)
  • 5 drops of rosemary essential oil

Preparation

  • Just heat ¼ cup of olive oil without boiling.
  • Pour it into a glass bottle and add five drops of rosemary essential oil.
  • Mix well and massage a few drops into the burnt hair.
  • Put on a plastic cap and let it work for about 20 minutes.
  • Then wash with your shampoo and conditioner as usual.
  • You can repeat it once a week.
  • It’s recommended to keep the oil for a month at the most (in a place away from the sun) and heat it a little each time you’re going to use it.

2. Egg and honey

Honey moisturizes and protects hair from heat damage. Both the honey and the eggs could help to restore your burnt hair. It’s ideal for people who have very dry and curly hair, with frizz and damaged hair due to chemical aggressions.

Ingredients

  • 1 or 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons of honey (60 g)

Preparation

  • Depending on the amount of hair you have (and the damage), take one or two eggs and add three tablespoons of honey.
  • Mix well and apply to the hair.
  • Then put on a plastic cap and let it act for half an hour.
  • After that, wash with shampoo and conditioner.
  • If you want a little more moisture, you can add a tablespoon of coconut oil and a tablespoon of almond oil.
