Detox soups don’t detoxify your body

There is a belief that you must "clean," "purify," and "detoxify" the body by using detox soups and some other ingredients. However, this is a myth.

Detox soups are an idea that derives from the practice of “souping.” It consists of consuming only creams or vegetable-based broths for a certain amount of time. According to this practice, you should prepare these soups with organic and nutritious ingredients, but these must be light.

Many people resort to these types of weight loss preparations, but they also use them to “cleanse” their bodies of toxins. These people believe they must “help” their bodies do their job and, without realizing it, fall into the BS trap.

Detox soups and the fear of toxins

The idea that toxins are a group of substances that damage the cells when introduced into the body is rather widespread. According to some quacks, toxins are responsible for all sorts of health problems (from obesity to chronic stress), as well as premature aging.

In short, they’ve suggested that toxins damage your body’s balance and go into the body through medications, non-organic vegetables, air pollution, and so on.

These people have said a lot about this subject. However, it’s all a myth for the most part. Your organism can’t “intoxicate” (unless you drink alcohol or do drugs). Also, it doesn’t need the support of any exterior elements (such as detox soups) to properly perform its functions.

Toxins aren’t going to cause an “overload” in your body systems. Only when you have kidney problems or some other conditions in which the organs responsible for processing the substances are compromised, should you take any measures to help these organs perform their function.

It’s not a good idea to maintain a diet based on detox soups or any other similar concoctions. You can only obtain the benefits that these ingredients can provide through proper nutrition. Also, by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

In fact, you should use the recipes of these soups to have a greater variety in your menu. Thas is, to incorporate those ingredients that you didn’t want to try before. Also, to consume regularly in all sorts of pleasant ways. Either that or just to try out a new recipe.

Some recommendations

  • Always maintain a balanced diet with a little bit of all food groups in moderate quantities. And, stay away from “miracle diets” that focus on the consumption of one ingredient only, be it a fruit or a vegetable.
  • It’s not healthy to base your diet on a single type of food because your body needs variety to be able to obtain all the nutrients it needs to function properly.
  • Don’t exclude any food from your diet unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Always keep in mind that no food on its own is capable of curing or treating any diseases.
  • The best thing you can do to be healthy is to lead a healthy lifestyle.
  • Reduce your salt intake and, instead, choose to spice up your dishes with natural condiments.
  • Don’t skip meals and instead of eating three big meals a day, eat 5 smaller ones,. This will help you provide your body with what it needs, in addition to contributing to a feeling of satiety.
  • Eat fruits instead of snacking on pastries, sweets and such.
  • Exercise daily, at least about 30-40 minutes a day.
  • Drink enough liquids daily and always give priority to water and drinks made with natural ingredients. Unstrained homemade fruit juices, for example.
  • Stay away from sugary and carbonated drinks. In general, avoid processed drinks such as teas, juices, energy drinks, flavored waters, etc. All these have huge amounts of sugar and other ingredients that contribute nothing good to your health.
  • Don’t self-medicate when you’re feeling under the weather and always consult your doctor before making any big changes in your lifestyle.

In short, only through a series of healthy lifestyle habits which include following your doctor’s recommendations will you be in good shape and enjoy good health.
