Last update: 27 April, 2021

As we all know, beds are furniture we use for sleeping. We all have one, whether shared or individual. Regardless of the types of beds that exist, we need them for resting and other activities.

Ideally, for style, decoration, need, and space, you should choose the one that’s right for you. But there are more types of beds than you can even imagine, which makes the decision somewhat complicated.

To be sure you’re making the right choice, we’ll give you several options depending on the classification you’re looking for.

1. Types of beds by dimensions

In this section, there are only 3 types of beds. We must take into account the space we have available to make the right choice:

  • Twin, with dimensions of 38 inches by 75 inches
  • Full, measuring 53 by 80 inches
  • Queen size, measuring 60 by 80 inches
  • King size, measuring 76 by 80 inches, or the Cal King, measuring 72 by 84 inches. These are the largest dimensions.

2. Types of beds according to their structure

According to the structure, we have compact beds, beds with storage, and those with a light structure. We’ll describe each of these types.

Compact beds are those that make the best use of space. These, in turn, consist of several subtypes:

  • Hidden: The legs aren’t visible. They’re hidden in a solid structure known as a bed base, which is where the mattress goes.
  • Bunk beds: These beds are very space-friendly because they consist of 2 beds, one on top of the other.
  • Folding beds: These beds usually unfold from the closet. You can use them in practically any room.
  • Drawer bed: These are similar to bunk beds. However, in this case, the second bed pulls out from the main bed like a drawer.
  • Mid-height: This is an innovative structure. It’s at a medium height, surrounded by 2 or 3 steps. Under the bed, there’s usually a space that can be used for a desk or closet.

With storage

In this case, they have a storage system around the structure. There’s no space between the mattress and the furniture itself. Instead, the bed can be used as a drawer.

Light structure

The subtypes of this variety are as follows:

  • With legs: This is the most classic and simple style.
  • Floating: These are anchored to the wall with the headboard or a small structure is placed underneath to give the sensation that it’s floating.
  • Wrought iron: These are made of wrought iron. They’re usually considered rustic and vintage and they’re characterized for being resistant.

3. Canopy type

This is a historical structure. Canopy beds have four posts that rise above the corners and are joined by side rails.

The curtains or fabrics that are placed to make the roof and cover are the canopies. In ancient times, they were the beds of nobles, which helped them keep warm and protect them from insects.

To have this type of bed, you must consider the size of your room, the height of the ceiling, and the height of the other furniture. They can be made of many materials, such as wood or iron. You just have to choose according to your taste.

4. Flush to the floor beds

Yes, these beds exist. Just a mattress, sheet, pillows, and blanket. However, to choose it, you must take into account how complex it can be for the body to get up and what your bones may feel.

This style of bed can generally work for those between the ages of 4 and 30+ years. However, it’s not a good idea for those with lower back pain.

The importance of beds in the decoration of a room

A bed’s more than just a piece of furniture that you sleep on. In fact, it’s the centerpiece and the entire purpose of a bedroom.

But besides that, the size, color, and material of the other furniture in the room revolve around the bed. We could say that it’s the star among our four walls. Your bedroom decor should be relaxing and comfortable.

In addition to being the centerpiece of your bedroom decoration, your mattress will be precisely what ensures maximum rest. ASOCAMA assures that a new mattress can contribute to a 63% decrease in back pain.

Also remember that, like everything else, mattresses wear out. Therefore, they should be changed every 8 to 10 years to prevent their components from damaging health and rest. According to Alvarez, 7% of sleep problems are the result of uncomfortable mattresses.

So, apart from being an important piece of decoration that gives life to your bedroom, your bed is your key to resting and having a pleasant night.
